Feast of the Cross

The Holy Church of the Holy Cross is located a short distance from the village of Chalki and is a later structure dedicated to the Holy Cross. The original building is situated right next to the church, within the small courtyard. It is a Byzantine chapel, one of the oldest structures on the island. Inside, very few frescoes remain, while the floor is paved with stones from Chalki.
On the eve of the Feast of the Exaltation of the Holy Cross, following the Divine Liturgy and alongside the meal served, the Municipality of Chalki will provide musical accompaniment for the traditional celebration in the church courtyard. Performing are Alexandros Peroulis (lyre) and Binis Zampetoulas (lute).
